Beyond the Orphanage
Geoff Hucker, an Australian pilot, has been doing volunteer work in Ethiopia for several years. During his time in Ethiopia, he completed many projects including building a library, a computer center, playgrounds, and renovating the Kiddane Mehret Children’s Home. Geoff always felt concern about the needs of older orphans who frequently end up on the streets due to the limited space for them in orphanages. Because of this, he created BTO.
We are partnering with BTO by designing and implementing a research study to determine the long-term effectiveness of their support in the lives of each child. We also make twice yearly visits to conduct home visits, school visits and to work directly with the BTO kids–providing psychological support through Saturday Sessions and incorporating Yoga to provide skills for dealing with anxiety and depression.
